Population

About 11 million people live in Cuba.  More than 50% of Cubans are under the age of 30.  Cubans have married different races for centuries, and today 22% of Cuba are mixed heritage.  Cubans think being Cuban is more important than being a member of any other race.

First Inhabitants

The first major inhabitants of Cuba were the the Taino and the Arawaks.  Chiefs ruled these tribes.  At first, when the Spanish landed in Cuba, the Natives and the explorers were friendly to each other.  But in 1511, Spain conquered Cuba for itself and killed most of the Tainos and Arawaks.
